History
As the premier Historic House in Co. Louth, Beaulieu is built in a ‘Dutch’ style, unique to Ireland, and believed to be the first unfortified house built in Ireland.
Existing for over 800 years the Beaulieu Estate was originally owned by the Plunkett family until 1650 when Sir Henry Tichborne settled the estates debits and obtained, in 1666, a royal grant from Charles II to attain full tenure.
Descending many times through the female line the family’s fascinating history includes links with the Battle of Trafalgar, American War of Independence and Field Marshal Montgomery of Alamain.
The current owner Gabriel DeFreitas is the tenth generation descendant of Sir Henry Tichborne,
